Moose Win FHL Championship

FHL CHAMPIONSHIP

Moose (1) vs Jets (3) 12:00 Noon The time is finally upon us. Two teams remain standing after the dog fight that is the FHL playoffs. Sweat has been poured, blood has been spilled, and tears have been shed—all for this, the FHL cup. Zack Siniawski will lead his Moose against a team that does nothing but win every year, the Jets. The boys in blue have now made it to the cup four years in a row. The two headed monster of captain Zak Campbell and alternate captain Brian Barca have continuously managed to build great teams around themselves. Whether it be Mark or Tom Fetsko, Matt Wierchowski, Gary Gerson, or Jason Kortz just to name a few, the Jets find new guys every year to help their cause. This year it is the great Chad Kanz. Kanz took a year off to tend to family obligations but is back and better than ever. Last week he dazzled fans with his precision shooting and uncanny play making abilities. Everyone in the league knows that Kanz is one of the games best and a sure fire hall of famer. However, another thing that everyone in the league knows is that he is one of the best players WITHOUT a cup. It is hard to believe that anyone in this game wants it more than Kanz. One player who might though is Moose defenseman Jeff Rogers. Rogers has been to the finals twice before, coming up empty both times. His second trip just happened to be with Chad Kanz on the Hawks. They lost to the Jets. Despite his past failures in the championship, “the pres” is not one to dwell on the past. “Well (John), to be honest I don't feel anymore pressure than anybody else out there. You're on basically a brand new team every year. But this year at the draft me and Z knew we had put together a team that had a hell of a chance to win the whole damn thing. We have played great all year and I don't see that changing. Just gotta get the job done (John), play our (expletive) off and do whatever it takes to shake your hand at the end of this six month dance and raise the (expletive) cup at center ice.” The Rogers-Kanz storyline may be juicy, but it definitely isn't the most personal. Moose captain Zack Siniawski will square off against his baby brother Nick Siniawski, the most rugged player on the Jets. Nick won a cup in his rookie season with the Crosbys, but hasn't been back since. He has battled his brother before, but never on a stage this big. This game isn't just for the bigger piece of chicken at the dinner table, its for the cup. “Obviously playing for the cup is all the incentive I need to play hard, but I think knowing that my brother is on the other side of things makes me want to reach a few more gears. He passed on me twice in the draft and I'd really like to show him that was a stupid (expletive) decision. It would be really special to get my second championship with this team and I can't wait for Saturday.” At high noon on Saturday we will find out who wants it more. Not just between Nick and Zack, the cupless Kanz or Rogers, Kortz or Barca, Doyle or Hruska... but between two franchises that have already made their mark on this young but growing league. These two teams have found a way to win consistently in a league that is full of talented players looking to make a name for themselves. One team will stand at center ice holding the prize that everyone chases for months, while the other team will feel a sting more painful than any of the other four teams felt that have already fallen. For the last time this year we will see the best that Munhall has to offer, playing their guts out...not for money, fame or any of the many wrong reasons. They'll play their hearts out just to say they did it, and to forever be known as an FHL champion. Good luck gentlemen, and God bless the FHL
