Week Seven: Preview

As possibly the most interesting week of FHL Hockey nears, we take a look at the match-ups and storylines for Week 7. The results of Week 6 included the The Kings defeat of the Crosby's 3-1, the Hawks 3-1 victory against the Pirates, and the Jets 3-2 comeback win against Bishop Boyle. These set of games left everyone questioning. Can anyone stop the Jets? Was the Kanz-Kings trade good for both teams? Would Boyle, the Pirates, and the Crosby's make moves to their losing teams?
The first question that was answered came on Wednesday afternoon, when the league had heard about a deal accepted upon by Bishop Boyle and the Pirates. The deal sent last year's defensive player of the year, Jeff Rogers, to the Pirates in exchange for Nick and Zak Siniawski. Current Pirates defenseman and brother of Jeff, Joe Rogers, had this to say: "Ya know, it's tough to give up such tremendous players, and even better people. I was truly honored to skate with the Siniawski's. That being said, we needed to shake things up and you don't land talent like Jeff Rogers without a good deal of sacrifice. He brings so much to the table and I look forward to sharing the ice with him, and knowingly taking a backseat to him defensively." - - - vs. The first matchup of the week puts last years MVP up against his former team. The Hawks vs. Kings is the 11:00 game. Each team is coming off of key wins from the previous week. Chad Kanz scored 3 Goals and had 2 Assists in his first game as a King, and the Hawks' Gary Gerson stepped up, taking the leadership role by scoring 3 Goals in their first game without Kanz. - - - vs. The 12:30 game puts the 5-1 Jets against a 2-4 new look Pirates team. Ever since the Pirates 3-2 victory over the Jets in Week 1, the Jets have been stellar, winning 5 in a row. The Pirates have turned the opposite direction, losing 4 of 5, and trading away two of their players for Jeff Rogers. When Rogers was asked about the Pirates and their chances against the Jets this week, he said, "It's going to be nice to see what we're made of our first game against the Jets, but with any new team you wont your full team's capability until you develop a good chemistry. I'm definitely excited to play with a real goal scorer like Bono, a very similar player to Kanz. Me and Kanz meshed really well last year, so I'm excited to see what's going to happen." The Jets on the other hand, have Brian Barca, who has taken the FHL by storm, scoring 13 goals and adding 9 assists for a league leading 22 points. - - - vs. The book of the rivalry between Bishop Boyle and the Crosby's will write another page this week at 2:00. Bishop Boyle, standing at 3-3, will take on the Crosby's, who are tied for a league worst 2-4 record. During week one of the season, Boyle defeated the Crosby's 3-1. The Crosby's have made minor changes to their roster, including a trade sending Brian Hreha and Jim Johnston to the Hawks for Dan Drane and Ben Bobick. As mentioned above, Bishop Boyle has completed a trade which they acquired last year's franchised player Zak Siniawski, and his brother, a former Crosby, Nick. Nick has been apart of this rivalry for a long time, but never wearing gold. When asked about playing against his former teammate, Crosby's captain John George replied, "I think it will be a bit weird. But once the puck drops we're both competitors and will be out there fighting to win the game." - - - Stay tuned as Week Seven box scores, recaps, three stars, and more will be posted during the upcoming week.
